Spring compressors are very often available for rent at your local autoparts store. Usually they don't cost anything at all to rent. I know that at Advance Autoparts the rental is free. You buy the kit and then you have 45 days to bring back for a full refund. The nice thing about the AAP kit is that the hooks for the springs are cast iron, not rolled steel. So they are much stronger. I like the kit so much that I kept the one I rented for future projects.

It costs the person nothing to do things the right way.
