I'm getting older and am seeing service disappearing rapidly. I often wonder what it will be like in 20 years when I'm elderly. I don't think I will like it very much. There's the possibility I will never have to leave my home though. Just order everything "online"
In Ontario self serve really didn't come into it's own until the late 70s and early 80s. I bought my first two cars with my earnings pumping gas from 1972 to 1974. Then the self serve places started popping up and business dropped off to the point they didn't need a pump jockey anymore. I got laid off at 15 years old. I loved the job since I got to talk to all sorts of people.
