The advantages to AWD are restricted to starting out in deep snow, driving on patchy ice and to a very, very small extent turning. Even these are really only advantages if you want to be able to just push the pedal and drive without giving any thought to how you should do it in the snow. A good driver in a RWD will blow the doors off a poor driver in AWD in any weather conditions. I have had to stop and help push AWD cars out of my way many times since I got the FRS.
