The whole "but it is a Hyundai so it is crap" thing went out the window at least 10 years ago when they really upped their game. They now easily meet or beat Subaru in all aspects of quality.

I agree with all of this. I like to buy new when I can but that's not always possible. I shopped a 2013 3.8 coupe, while looking for a new car at the time. Couldn't bring myself to buy a first year car...ie frs, and I didn't really want a payment so large for the coupe so a new gti won out as it was drastically cheaper. But after test driving the coupe, Hyundai was making a nice car worthy of a second look and consideration.
