That Coronet looks well beyond minimal modifications for motorsports. I mean it was basically a sedan that was cut down into a coupe and then had the R/T trimmings added. How much over a base Coronet was that? So it's not really confusing to me. Not a Sportscar.
That's exactly why I prefer Frere's definition vs. Wikipedia & the above R&T article. Neither of the others really speak towards the Motorsports aspect of the name Sportscar. Only that the car is fun to drive or at one time was modded to high heaven from the factory to make it race. Those type of cars and "Sporty"cars do not always equal Sportscars (that's why the Golf R is not a Sportscar. The original form needed $25k to make competitive for sport.) So what's the difference? Frere's definition points us in a clearer direction.
