5Zigen had something like this before that basically allowed use of the clutch via a button. You still retained normal shifting but you can run the car without the clutch pedal.

Mind you this was 16+ years ago so the entire idea of sequential shifting or "clutchless" manual transmissions isn't new.

Also, this is not the first company with this idea. Ikeya Formula has had it in Japan for years.
