Which reminds me of a back-in-the-day flying story ...... ....... sorry, but it does.

It was late evening when we took off from the airport in Lewiston, ID, heading for the Tacoma, WA area.

I was flying right seat in this company owned Cessna 172. The pilot was this really old retired air force pilot.

As we just started up the side of the Sierra mountain range, the engine started sounding funny. After looking at the fuel gauge, I suggested to the pilot that he switch over to the reserve (other) fuel tank.

He said that he wanted to wait and see how far the plane would fly on a low tank and that he would switch tanks when the engine started to sputter .....

I yelled ....... FOR CRYEN OUT LOUD, IT'S ALMOST DARK AND WE ARE FLYING OVER MOUNTAINS ....... SWITCH THE TANK NOW!

He did.

I told him he could do that experiment sometime when I wasn't in the plane.

THE END
