Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't the handling of both cars, base versions, identical since the 2015 MY ?
If I'm correct, then CR has stuck with wording relating to tests they did some years ago.
Have they tested BRZ vs 86 recently ?
Personal opinion: CR can be just so lame at times. In the past they rated our cars as not so reliable, I think, based on their initial findings of the cars produced early on (2012). Finally, 5 1/2 years later they've given us a break. Possibly this might help our used car values...and send more new car buyers to this platform.

The 2013's had quite a few issues. And I'm pretty sure the spring rates are different still between the two cars, if not the suspension tuning. For outright handling I still think the 2013 FRS is the best.
