Does he do his own maintenance or detailing, or has he given any indication of wanting to start? Also, a drop-in air filter is always a good choice IMO. I'd recommend a dry-type over an oil type unless he's done modding before. Easier maintenance.
Edit: 2017s have some differences from earlier models, so if you get something car-specific make sure it fits a 2017.
