Carroll Smith books are highly reccommended
And when it comes to autocross car setup/tuning:

My #1 advice: screw the books
Go on ride alongs, convince/make friends with someone fast and have them drive your car with you in the passenger seat, (imho it's worth giving up a run here and there to do this early on) have a video camera running and compare side by side that driver's run with yours, camera in the exact same spot.
No book will turn the light on as quickly as sitting shotgun in your own car and being in awe when you realize "I can go flat out THERE?!?!?" or "HE DIDN'T EVEN BRAKE UNTIL THEN?!?!?" or maybe the opposite "He braked so early and smooth and it was HOW much faster?!?!?!?" and then watching the video and seeing where you lose a ton of time is valuable too, something you think you did well or poorly at may be totally different than you thought once you look at the hard evidence. Racerender is free and pretty quick to match up videos, I put 'em on Youtube and go frame by frame to compare runs and drivers.
Autocross is hard, flying through a course at 10/10ths the first time you see it is not a natural skill and it takes a lot of practice to be good. Keep the car in street class, buy good tires once your DD tires are shot and get maximum seat time.
