2018 Has not started yet. At least, no numbers are in yet.
For 2017, the numbers are in for Jan through June. The 2016 Scion FR-S sold 3783 cars from Jan through June last year. The 2017 Toyota 86 sold 3736 cars during the same months in 2017. These are just US sales numbers.
For comparison purposes:
Scion sold 7844 FR-S during the 2016 model year (from Sept 15 thru Aug 16).
Toyota has sold 6090 86 for 2017 with July and August yet to be added to the tally.

I believe what keeps this car alive is that Toyota shares the cost of producing it with Subaru. When you add in the sales of the BRZ, which is essentially an identical car, then you get annual sales numbers which are sufficient to continue production. Subaru has sold 3006 BRZ from Jan thru Aug 2017.
