The answer is simple. Apple is a mainstream brand yet the iPhone X pricepoint is already at the very top bordering the luxury market like Vertu or Porsche Design, etc. The twins pricepoint isn't remotely close to the boundary of the luxury segment, so what if the mods are a few grand. It's all relative.
It's like the same people that don't see any merit to the price of a VW Phaeton for example.
