Everybody sucks until they practice their nuts off, won't matter what class you're in or if your car is the perfect championship winning car, hell show up in a wicked fast car and the first time you'll probably be beat by stock Miatas and MR-S. People do this for years and still suck, I'm closing out year three and I know if you put a top driver in my car after I've spent 10 runs trying to figure out the course he'd probably beat me the first time he ever touched my car by a wide margin.
I drive about an hour and a half one way to do this. Most people do. Too many people go spend tens of thousands of dollars on sports cars and never ever spin them out, it's a shame.
Edit: Go once, and make sure you ride along in someone else's car, it's too easy to go out and turn a few slow laps think 'this is lame' and go home and never come back. Experiencing a car driven on and over the edge is awesome, and you have all the tools to go do that. And I'd suggest skipping a ride along in some big fast kickass car like a Corvette or GT3, find the guy turning quick times in an E30/E36 or '80s Civic or NA/NB Miata so you're not distracted by the raw speed and horsepower bought by money and really feel what it means to drive something 'slow' at 11/10ths. Sorry I'm all hyped because I had a fun local autox yesterday.
