Dude I tried for years to teach my wife, she couldn't learn with me in the car. My friend was trying to teach his GF how to drive a manual, she couldn't learn either. We swapped and taught each others' ladies, and it was like a 10x confidence modifier for them, both have picked it up at this point.

One thing that really helped is we sat them both on a beater motorcycle (woo old nighthawk FTW) and had them feel the clutch grab point while straddling the bike, and walked the bike up the street while going on and off clutch, like you do in the MSF class. Then we had them try in the car - it really seemed to help them understand the friction zone.
