Correct in California, removing the airbag in the steering wheel is illegal for a road car. Side note, it's also
REALLY DUMB unless you're driving around with a 6 point harness, helmet and HANS device. Not calling you or OP dumb, just the action of removing the airbag if you're not using those other safety systems designed to save your life. Be safe out there.
