If I had changed the timing belt when I was supposed to and not left it until well over double the "recommended" period I would probably never had a single issue. The only reason I got rid (3 years) after I replaced the engine of was that at 12 years old it was starting to rust badly. So did most of the other cars of that era though. It went on to spend many years as a 700hp dedicated drag car so it lived a full life. As recently as last year I heard the guy was still racing it.
