As you said it does not seem to be RPM related, it appeared to me it might be speed related. If it is not RPM and you are lucky you may have picked up some junk on your tire and shed it at the next hard corner. (Evan if you are not running very sticky tires someone else may have left a marble.)
Speed related noises are usually tires, brakes, diff, or driveshaft. An other unlikely possibility on our cars is a flapping body panel, but that is normally easily repeatable.
