I am very late to this party, but the LS1 had a similar problem due to an air bubble trapped in the block. The air expands and blows the coolant out the overflow catch can.
Either many heat and cooling cycles would alleviate. Or use a vacuum coolant charge system, this helps expand the bubble to get it out.
Just a thought.
