yep you got it! the bolt holes may not line up because I don't think they make gaskets for our cars. To give you more perspective I run a tomei header with a JDL overpipe. the tomei header has a 2 and 3/8" diameter or something like that. the closest gasket that they have to that size is their part number 8040. check them out at this link:

Not sure if that's what the size of your piping is, but notice how one bolt hole is slotted (open them up horizontally like you stated, I used scissors. you can use a utility knife or wire cutters and it will cut through, you will have to use some force though because they are super thick). for this specific one, you would slot just the other hole since one is already slotted.
