If that's really what happened, and you did nothing to contribute to the failure, I would have made a warranty claim anyway. A block should not be made of such brittle material that removing a threaded plug cracks it. Unless I'm misunderstanding, that plug is supposed to be removable to allow installation of a third party oil pressure gauge.

At this point you may have done enough other things trying to fix it to complicate the matter. But I think if it were me, I'd still try a warranty claim rather than shelling out several thousand dollars for an engine replacement. I would probably be willing to go to small claims court over it to force the issue.
