Sometimes it's just better to check further.......

OK, sorry, that reminds me of a back-in-the-day story.

It was a warm, rainy day at Coleman Barracks in Germany. One of my soldiers had just returned from a one week leave ...... 30 days late. That made him AWOL.

He was a mild mannered, small, black soldier from Georgia. When I tried to talk to him he wouldn't make eye contact or respond. I sent him on sick call to have the Doc check him out ..... nothing organically wrong with him.

I then sent him over to see the Chaplain, he wouldn't respond to him either. Nobody could get him to open up as to where he was or why.

While under "house arrest" he eluded the sergeant that was to be watching him and was reported heading for the motor pool with a hand grenade.

As his CO, I went after him and found him sitting on top of a M113 APC at the end of the motor pool. Yep, he had a live grenade and had his finger around the pin.

With his permission, I jumped up on the tracked vehicle and started talking to him. All of a sudden he open up with a burst of tears and told me his story.

When he was on leave he went to Amsterdam where he met a "woman", and fell in love. Since he was southern gentleman he didn't "explore" that person till he was in love.

The first night they were intimate ........ he discovered that the person was a MALE, ..... NOT female ......

That poor young man just couldn't shake that out of his head and was so embarrassed, that he didn't return to the post.

Well, now, he was no longer any good to me as a soldier, so, I hand carried his paperwork up to Division HQ and walked it through the channels to get him a Section 8, with an honorable discharge.

A week later, he was on a plane back to his small, hometown in Georgia.

THE END
