1JZGTE is mine (in my car). But from a pure overall performance point, I have dirty thoughts of putting a 3MZFE (3.3L aluminum closed deck block from Camry, ES300, et al.) into a Supra.
The V6 advantages I see are these:
- Shorter crank can be more rigid which is better for high rpm reliability, possibly lighter for the same strength.
- Less weight on the front axles.
- Allows for larger bore. For example if they wanted to make a 3JZ with the same 92mm bore as the 3MZ while keeping the cylinder wall thickness between them the same, the motor would be 36mm longer than the original 86mm bore 2JZ. Which gets back to the weight over the front issue.
- With the larger bore you have more flow/power potential due to valve and port sizes.
I personally believe that a properly built 3.3L 3MZ could out-power a 3.4L 2JZ stroker at the same boost levels. Now take into effect the reduced weight and improved balance, on a road course it would be an absolute embarrassment for the 2JZ car. These thoughts would be considered blasphemy in a Supra community.
