That technology has been around since 1939. It's called an automatic transmission.
I can't really argue against hill assist, but it's sad to see the skill set erode even further. With this, flashing lights to tell you when to shift and a display to tell you what gear you're in, one begins to wonder why bother with a manual transmission at all.
BTW, how does the hill assist activate in the new model? Do you have to leave it on for it to be ready when you need it, or is it easy to just hit a button to turn it on if you come to a hill that presents more of a challenge, then turn it off after you leave that hill?
