But now I still use it and I don't mind. I know how to use the e-brake if I ever drive a manual without hill assist.

You should still learn to do it without the handbrake. It is an important part of of the MT driving skill set. Most of the MTs I have drove had no hand brake (honestly most had no e/parking brakes at all since they were either seized up or broke) since they were either a floor pedal or a hand pull down by your left knee. Too use them on a hill was impossible. You may never drive something like that but if you get a chance you will be stuck if you need to start on a hill.
