Truck driver here. That's a massive blind spot in those big semi and dump trucks. Couple that with the small size of the 86 and the light color - white and silver kind of blend in to the road at daytime, and you're practically invisible. That's why I never drive my BRZ near the front-right side of trucks. If you don't really have a choice, like in moderate to heavy traffic, at least keep back near the truck's tandems. That way the trucker can at least catch you in his/her convex mirrors.
I also never drive without my dashcam. Never caught an accident on it yet, but did catch some crazy shit overall: a sheet of ice came off another car and knocked my car mirror clean off and another similar incident where a sheet of ice hit my truck (same day actually), had another truck try to run me off the road (should've sent the video to DOT, but didn't), caught one of our company drivers break a container chassis in half, close call with a dumbass who ran a stop sign, another close call with somebody going the wrong way, a very close call with a complete retard making a right turn from center lane (I was in right lane) with no turn signal, and a bunch of random weird shit like somebody with a wing on their Hummer H3T, a licence plate wedged between the bumper and the trunk, probably some other ones I can't remember.
Moral of the story, trucker's at fault, get a a dashcam.
