"Effective" resonator would be more accurate. Either the resonators are large w/ baffles (OEM, cheaply made, etc) or they are of a large enough volume to reduce noise (and not amplify it).

Many exhaust components are often designed with no other consideration taken for mods elsewhere in the exhaust system. End users think "let's just get a quiet exhaust and straight pipe everything else" to mask the sound..

Pardon the pun, but there's just too much noise in what works well and what doesn't, and people keep spewing out the same wrong info.

One can never answer an exhaust question without knowing what else is on the car.
