Their original idea was to dump most of the money into things that we the consumers cannot readily modify after purchasing the vehicle (i.e. chassis, driving position, ergonomics, etc). The upscaling and gadgetry were probably from the marketing dept.  |
Just imagine if they put the current 86 motor in the MX-5 ND platform and called it the next 86. Seems like it would be perfect. With a header / tune you'd be at or near the magic 10:1 weight:power ratio.
