All the time, but they have super ridiculous cheap parts that interchange through some of the generations and they also had a factory turbo car....as well as multiple engine swap options and transmission options in a similar chassis.
People often complained about why the original Miata didn't come with the turbo 1.6. Especially since it was so easy to do as that was an engine option at the time and the Miata motor literally had all the plug ins for the turbo...just blocked off.
Almost like people asking for FA20DIT instead, except less of a hassle to package.
