Yeah that'd be a bad situation. Whenever I need to replace the tires I'll see what good deals are out there. If 35's are on sale then I may go with 35's. I've always done 40's just for the fact they look just right for my style. 80% of my driving consists of driving to and from work so the tread will probably last for a long time.
There is some drag on the car due to the weight but where I live and where my work is I don't even go above 45mph so I don't notice the performance loss.
