Detonation is most likely to occur near peak torque when cylinder pressures are at their highest.. Which, because of it's fairly flat torque curve is 143 lb-ft from 2,800 rpm all the way through to 6,500...



Knowing these points you can see why it's not good to run less than recommended octane. It is 12.5:1 CR ... Which is pretty high for a production motor.
