I know America usually gets Japan's scraps, but I would think Subaru would go all out with this car if they are throwing the STi badge on it.

I think people are disappointed because of how people outside of Japan have perceived the STi brand. We've only had the WRX STi as a model, but STi as the aftermarket arm has been making more minor upgraded models in Japan for years (the tS line among others). TS models have always been about making improvements to the handling and ride over power (legacy tS, forester tS, exiga tS, etc. have all followed similar development)
