The ND's were hanging on to his tail until he was able to put a couple TC class cars in between himself and them, and with open track he just pulled away.
The driver in the FRS isn't nearly as good as some of the front runners. Two years ago when Tony Rivera was running one in TCA, he nearly won the championship until a bonehead move at the last race at MRLS.
Finally, PWC works very hard at Balance of Performance, or BOP, so it's hard to take PWC results as how a completely stock street car would do versus another in the same class. Tom's car was very heavy and down on boost for the first race weekend at VIR. They gave him 2psi back and took 75lbs out of the car for CTMP and that seems to have put him pretty on par with the ND's which are the benchmark for the class. PWC is also very well aware that Tom is an alien, so they're going to "keep things interesting" and make sure his car is competitive (and not overly competitive) with him behind the wheel as long as he's the only one running that car this year.
