Kinda makes sense since cats are meant to convert unburnt hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides. The only one of those three with a smell is unburnt hydrocarbons, so if your car is tuned so it doesnt run too rich or too lean, that should help?

No personal or expert experience on this stuff, just repeating what I've found online. Would be nice if someone without cats and with a tune gave their experience.
Coming from the era before cats and any other emission controls existed I can assure you that any car will have a smell no matter how good the tune. Yes, it could be reduced with one but it will still be there. I do not miss sitting in traffic with hundreds of uncatted cars. That smell will linger in my brain for ever.
