You are not alone. Well over half the "my car won't start" threads on here start with people checking fuses or even starters or alternators and then working their way back to the battery. Probably 95% of the time it is the battery. It is sort of like having a TV that doesn't work and pulling it all apart before checking to see if it is plugged in.
