Sorry to revive this post too, but I'd like to know the rationale for this tabs position and if it matters? I tried to look around but I couldnt find an answer. |

Things like that may be used for manufacturing purposes like locating the rubber during assembly as it's pressed into the metal part. I'm sure there's a 'correct' way to put it in, but I don't think it matters, I long forgot as I've taken mine apart and put it back together dozens of times.

According to this, the OEM put red markings on front and rear strut tops for reference to orient them toward the front of the vehicle.
