The sil doesn't appear to make contact/seal woth the door so I'm not convineed that it is an issue at this point.

I doubt (but not sure) that there are drain holes in the floorboard. The idea is to NOT let the water in ....... NOT drain it if the wheel well floods .....
Maybe the accident left a gap somewhere around the upper part of the firewall that is now letting the water in ......
