Still, as impressive as the Camaro is in the corners for its size, 2800lbs still feels much better and is more fun (to me) than 3500+lbs.

Maybe in a few years I can get a used 1LE and strip it. But the Camaro still feels damn big, even if it is made lighter. Plus on my local 1.8 mile track, a lot of the HP is not as useable.
I test drove my friend's '14 1LE but the new 1LE is definitely felt a lot better and smaller than the previous car so it's really apples to avocados. Keep in mind the new 1LE surpasses the previous gen Z28 that comes with carbon ceramics, Multimatic DSSVs, 19" forged wheels and R comp tires. Add those options to the 1LE and the delta would be even bigger.

ORP is also very twisty with a lot of elevation changes where I would expect to see some disadvantage of a heavier car but it didn't feel like it I was definitely in your shoes until very recently but it changed my mind. I believe after a few more events I will get more confidence and the gap will be even higher. The steering feel and the new shifter and the e-diff is simply amazing, it's very easy to rotate and can put the power way easier than my C6 Grandsport. Unlike the GS, it's easier to catch a slide. I hope that helps.
