Using that argument, cars should have no sound insulation at all. Some helmets are quieter than others. I have an "Arai Head" and never went cheap on PPE and still wore earplugs. The lidless moron on a bike loud enough to strip paint hears far less than I do with a helmet and earplugs.
This argument is a waste of time. I'll continue to wear hearing protection when needed, even in my car.
