In a pinch 87 should work, I don't think there would be any real harm done... the knock sensor will alert the ECU of any pre-detonation occurring, and the ecu will adjust the timing to compensate.. which will affect your power output, but shouldn't do any real physical harm... course, that assumes the ecu works fast enough to counter the knocking and save your crank, rod and piston bearings and journals as well as your valves and injectors from damage caused by pre-detonation.
