The fact that engine shook and RPM dropped prior to the light appeared, lead me to believe that its a detonation. Why? DI + port injection switching.
Give both companies some time to gather more cases and stats. Demo cars had 10K + miles on them during some reviews we read back April. I'm sure it would come up if it was THAT big of a deal.
Take notes and bring those to your dealers. Meanwhile get gas only from reputable gas stations.

Its interesting because here in Aus we are told to run 98octane (95 at a minimum) and in Japan I'm fairly certain their fuels are 100octane.
I wonder if there is a difference between quality of US vs AUS/JPN fuels or if the US market cars have been de-tuned to suit etc..
