Well technically it is indeed a battery issue since no power could get out of it!
That really sucks but you aren't the first nor will you be the last to have rodents destroy wiring. Last winter I opened my hood and found a pile of peanuts on my block. I was lucky they were just using it as warehousing and not apartments. Yet!
