Question General/Alternative Options: Warranty Expiration

I currently have a 2013 Scion FRS with 12000 miles and am seeing that my power train warranty maybe expiring later this year (08?2017). (second owner)

I am worried, seeing the fact that SOME people have gear grind / synchro issues (4th / 5th gear) with their current FRS and have been getting it replaced by the dealership, under warranty.

Although my tranny / gearbox / synchro seems fine at this point.
Seems like this issue usually occurs around 10k~20k? miles, if it was intended to occur.

What would be the best alternative options if this occurs in the future without warranty?

Are our cars (2013 model - first gen) prone to having the synchro/tranny issues?or is it just affecting a small sample of the population?

If this happened to you, what route would you take? Take 3rd Party warranty?
Is the BRZ tranny a direct fit in the FRS? Any alternative tranny swaps currently available?

Please advise.
Thank you!
