Honda killed off their naturally aspirated K series because the higher performance versions (100+ hp/L) wouldn't meet global emissions/FE standards. Same for the F series. It's been a decade now and the new Civics that Honda dumped their resources into (including the Type-R) are turbocharged and FWD. Low-revving, downsized turbo engines are the way of the future.
Not to mention Honda doesn't seem to have any interest in developing another RWD chassis anyway. There were some rumors last year about Honda creating an S2000 successor to mark its 70th anniversary in 2018 but Honda Europe's Head of Sales recently said while he liked the idea of a new S2000, the affordable lightweight sports car market was basically dead. He's right considering how abysmally the original S2000 sold. The ND Miata/Fiat 124 aren't doing that hot, and even BRZ/FR-S sales have dropped off considerably.
