The car does not lock if I just back out of the driveway and say, drive to work, this has to do with me exiting the car.

Maybe next thing to try is back up, turn the car off, restart and get out. See if it re-sets something by shutting it off and re-starting?

Or I can shut it off and leave it off with the key in the ignition to see what happens?

Or I can ignore the whole thing and not leave the key in the ignition ever.

I will see about a new battery for the key fob. Is it a common battery or is it a Scion specific cell?

I tried last night. Car never locked no matter what combination of actions I did. The only result is that my neighbors are more convinced than ever that I have serious mental issues.
