OK, my recommendations for service might have been a bit of an exaggeration, also leaving out a few things.
All depends on just how long, how many miles a person keeps a car.
In addition to checking fluid levels once a month, I also check cabin and engine air cleaner filters. Usually vacuuming them works just fine.
I don't believe in changing transmission fluid (manual trans only), differential fluid, or brake fluid. Though brake fluid does get moisture in it over time.
Spark plugs I'll think about at 60k miles as it's recommended. Maybe check with others who've let them go longer and see what they've experienced.
I do check under car on occasion...and that means removing skid plate under engine to check for leaks.
Tires are now rotated at 7500 mile intervals.
Many things are just obvious...Check brake linings and rotors whilst rotating tires. Eyeball remaining tread at same time. Check wiper refills very often, replace when tears appear, or when they won't clean up.
Might be good to check with those with high mileage...as Tcoat. See if they've experienced any mechanical problems needing emergency attention.
Still, best to do the minimal, then trade the car, give it to someone else to worry about.
