Back in the old US Army, the M3 (grease gun) was issued to the cooks, mechanics, drivers and other support personnel, so if they got attacked, they could make a bunch of noise to alert the line infantrymen to come help.

As far as accuracy, actually it didn't make much difference, by spraying 30 rounds of .45 cal ammunition out there, you're were bound to hit something ......
