Well that is sort of the thing. Back in "the day" there were steel wheels and there were magnesium alloy wheels. Most of the other alloy wheels (i.e. aluminum) were either so rare or expensive we called all alloy wheels "mags". Steel wheels were just "wheels" since the vast majority of the cars on the road had them. Things have sort of reversed and when people talk about "wheels" they are usually referring to alloy and they specify "steelies" when talking about the others. Don't think there are many magnesium wheels made anymore.

You know I can't recall what the last car was that I had hubcaps on.
