It also depends on what camber you end up with after lowering. It may be about where you want it, or it may be way off. Or one wheel ends up good but the other one is off. After lowering my car, both rear wheels were at -2.0, so I lucked out and didn't need an LCA. If one had been -2.4 and the other -1.5, I'd have needed LCAs to adjust them. I'm not trying to fit a 265 close to the fender without rubbing though, so my needs are different.
3mm spacers are the max you should go on the OEM lugs. More than that and you risk not having enough threads engaged to hold the wheel securely. 12-15mm is the minimum you should go on bolt-on spacers. Everything in between will require new lugs and slip-on spacers.
