Some people are prepared to accept that possibility, and would rather handle repairs themselves.

The level of carelessness and negligence present in most dealer techs (and encouraged by their management) is almost unparalleled. I occasionally find just as many new problems in every ancillary they touched in order to get to the broken system, as there was in the broken system itself... That's provided they even fixed the problem, which is nowhere close to guaranteed... And that's if they didn't deny the warranty claim altogether.

I want to throw a punch every time I hear "Oh, I never replace *insert non-reusable part* 'cause you don't need to," and I hear it on a regular basis.

Here are some common dealer mechanic problems...
Connectors broken
Wiring rerouted incorrectly
Wiring fixtures broken
Hydraulic systems leaking*
Exhaust system leaking*
Fasteners over or under torqued
Grease where it shouldn't be
No grease where it should be
Wrong grease on wrong parts
Plastic clips broken or missing
Seals, boots, and other rubber parts torn, or missing
Sensors damaged or contaminated
Internal engine / transmission issues/leaks*
Threads stripped. Threads stripped EVERYWHERE
Fasteners missing, wrong bolts in wrong holes
Air in ALL the lines
No anti-sieze anywhere
RTV everywhere

* = caused by reusing non-reusable parts

You know who is uaually great? ...And always does their job right, never wastes your time, never d*cks you around, hates the techs as much as I do, and usually drops you a discount if you're not a moron? The parts desk.
