the biggest kicker was the tune. i drove on that setup for a few hundred miles (clearing the P0420 every time it came up lol!) and once i got it tuned it was like night and day difference

Yep! People think they can just bolt stuff on and get instant power. The car doesn't know it is there and self tune to take advantage of the changes. It needs to be told to change all the perimeters so that the parts actually make a difference.
